Ocean monuments need more than just gold and sponges. It is FAR from worth it to conquer one.
Gold, sea lanterns, and the occasional sponges aren't worth getting prepared for. I've done it once alone and again with someone else and until there are some changes I won't be doing it again. Maybe the occasional diamond block or experience dump would make it more worth it!
